The Wassa Amenfi Central District Assembly, in collaboration with the Member of Parliament for Wassa Amenfi Central, Joana Gyan Cudjoe, has successfully organised the second cohort of the Persons With Disabilities (PWDs) Support Programme at Achichire.
The initiative forms part of government’s commitment to improving the livelihoods of Persons With Disabilities through the allocation of three percent of the District Assembly Common Fund to support their economic empowerment and social inclusion.
A total of 31 beneficiaries received various forms of support aimed at helping them establish and expand sustainable livelihoods. The items presented included refrigerators, generators, pepper-grinding machines, fufu-pounding machines, motorbikes and cash grants.
The latest intervention follows the first cohort of the programme held in May at Agona Amenfi, where 51 Persons With Disabilities benefited from similar support packages to enhance their economic independence.
The Member of Parliament for Wassa Amenfi Central, Hon. Joana Gyan Cudjoe, also extended additional assistance to the beneficiaries by providing lunch support in cash to all participants who attended the programme.
The District Assembly and the Office of the MP reaffirmed their commitment to supporting vulnerable groups and ensuring that Persons With Disabilities are given equal opportunities to participate fully in the development of Amenfi Central.
The support program, according to stakeholders, is expected to empower beneficiaries with the necessary resources to improve their businesses, create income opportunities and enhance their quality of life as part of efforts to ensure that no one is left behind in the district’s development agenda.
