St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church at Krobo in the Techiman Catholic Diocese has marked its 10th anniversary with a solemn Eucharistic Celebration, during which the Bishop of the Techiman Catholic Diocese, Most Rev. Dominic Yeboah Nyarko, blessed and dedicated a newly constructed Grotto of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Parish Office Block, and Parish Hall.
The anniversary celebration which was chaired by Former Deputy Minister for Education and National Treasurer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Hon. Dr. Alex Kyeremeh, brought together priests, religious sisters, traditional authorities, parishioners and invited guests to thank God for a decade of evangelization, spiritual growth and community development.
Hon. Dr. Alex Kyeremeh, described the occasion as a historic milestone not only for the Catholic faithful at Krobo but also for the entire community.
Drawing from his personal connection to the Church, Hon. Dr. Kyeremeh recounted how his father was among the founding members of the Church and served as its President for 25 years, a legacy that shaped his own faith and attachment to the parish.
He said the elevation of the Church to a parish ten years ago was received with great joy by members of the congregation, adding that although the journey had been challenging, the parish had made remarkable progress through God’s grace and the commitment of the faithful.
“My father was one of the founding members of this Church and served as the Church President for 25 years. I was born and bred in this Church, so this celebration is very personal to me. The news that we had become a parish was one of the most joyful moments for us because it marked the beginning of a new chapter in the history of our Church.”
Hon. Dr. Kyeremeh noted that the achievements recorded over the past decade were a reflection of the dedication and sacrifices of both the clergy and the laity.
“The ten-year journey has not been easy, but by the grace of God and the dedication of our parishioners, we have come this far. Today, our parish is among the best in the Techiman Catholic Diocese, and that is a testament to the hard work and commitment of our parishioners, as well as the invaluable contributions of our past and current Parish Priests.”
Speaking on behalf of the laity, Church President Daniel Yeboah Asumah, described the celebration as a testimony to God’s faithfulness and the unwavering commitment of the faithful who have supported the parish since its establishment ten years ago.
He acknowledged that the journey had not been without challenges but said the grace of God and the dedication of parishioners had enabled the Church to grow steadily over the years.
“The ten-year journey of our parish has not been easy, but by the grace of God, we have come this far. Our congregation has been unwavering in its support for the growth of the Church. We could not have achieved this milestone without their commitment, dedication and enthusiasm.”
Daniel Yeboah Asumah, paid glowing tribute to the pioneer Parish Priest, Rev. Fr. Pius Frimpong, for laying the foundation upon which the parish continues to flourish. also commended members of the Parish Pastoral Council (PPC), Parish Finance Committee, Basic Christian Communities (BCCs), various Societies and Associations, youth groups and all parishioners for their commitment to the development of the Church.
“To our first Parish Priest, Rev. Fr. Pius Frimpong, we extend our heartfelt gratitude. What we are witnessing today is the maturity of the seed he planted ten years ago. Our current Parish leadership continues to build on that foundation through selflessness, prayers and dedication.
“The leaders of our parish have also contributed immensely to its growth and development, and I would like to express our profound appreciation to all of them. I pray that future leaders will remain united and continue to champion the progress of our parish.”
The Chief of Mateso, Nana Ati Adjei, also congratulated the parish on attaining the milestone and commended the Catholic Church for promoting discipline, education, peace and community development within Krobo and its surrounding communities.
He encouraged parishioners to remain steadfast in their Christian vocation by serving God with sincerity rather than seeking public recognition.
“My message to the congregation is that whatever you do, do it to glorify God and not to seek the praise of people. By doing so, you will not only contribute to the growth of the Church but also bring blessings to your own families.”
He further expressed appreciation to all individuals and institutions that have supported the parish over the years.
“May God richly bless everyone who has contributed in one way or another to the growth of this parish, and may He continue to strengthen them in supporting His work. We are also grateful to Bishop Dominic Nyarko, our Paramount Chief, Oseadeeyo Akumfi Ameyaw IV, the Chief of Krobo, Dr. Oyeadieyie Asa Akompanin, and the good people of Techiman for their unwavering support.”
Reflecting on the history of the parish, the Parish Priest of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, Rev. Fr. George Owusu Adjei noted that St. Francis Xavier Parish started from very humble beginnings but has grown steadily through God’s providence and the collective efforts of the faithful.
“St. Francis Xavier Parish began from very humble beginnings, and through God’s guidance and the dedication of the people of Krobo and our congregation, it has grown into what we celebrate today.”
Looking beyond infrastructure development, the Parish Priest outlined an ambitious vision aimed at strengthening the social mission of the Church by investing in the welfare and education of parish members.
“Looking ahead, my vision is to establish a Caritas office or an educational support fund to assist brilliant but needy members of the congregation. The support will not be limited to formal education but will also include apprenticeship and vocational training. While infrastructure development is important, we must equally invest in our human capital to secure the future of our parish.”
The Diocesan Bishop, Most Rev. Fr. Dominic Yeboah Nyarko, commended the clergy and faithful of St. Francis Xavier Parish for their commitment to evangelization, community service, and the development of the parish, urging them to continue living out the Gospel through unity, stewardship, and active participation in the life of the Church.
