Ga Mantse announces plans for 500-bed children’s hospital at Korle Bu

The Ga Mantse, King Tackie Teiko Tsuru II, has disclosed plans to establish a 500-bed specialist children’s hospital at Korle Bu Teaching Hospital to improve paediatric healthcare delivery in the country.

The announcement was made during a courtesy call by the Minister for Health, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, as part of discussions on healthcare delivery and measures being implemented to strengthen community protocols against the Ebola virus threat.

Speaking during the meeting, the Ga Mantse revealed that arrangements were already underway for the project following engagements with management of the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital.

“There was a proposal for a new hospital for children. We contacted Korle Bu Teaching Hospital and on the right side of the hospital, they gave us five acres of land to see if we could design something for a 500-bed children’s hospital,” he stated.

King Tackie Teiko Tsuru II further disclosed that he personally discussed the project with President John Dramani Mahama during a visit by the President following his accident.

“When His Excellency the President visited me in the hospital during my accident, I spoke to him about it. He said it was not in his manifesto to put up a 500-bed specialist children’s hospital,” he said.

According to the Ga Mantse, efforts are already far advanced to ensure the project materialises, indicating that investors have shown interest in supporting the initiative.

“I also told him that I have been able to bring in investors. We have put in a lot of work and met with the board of Korle Bu Teaching Hospital, and we are eager to put this project into action,” he added.

The meeting also focused on public health preparedness and the role of traditional authorities in supporting awareness creation and preventive measures against infectious diseases, including Ebola.

Mr. Akandoh emphasised the importance of collaboration between government institutions and traditional leaders in strengthening healthcare delivery and disease prevention across the country.
