The Oforikrom Traditional Council, under the leadership of Okogyeaman Kese Basahyia II and Nana Akyia Sakyera Abanaba, has enstooled Nana Ameyaw Krompe I as Akyempemhene, Nana Ameyaa I as Akyempemhemaa, and Nana Yeboah Asiamah as Akyempem Abusuapanin of the Oforikrom Traditional Area in the Techiman South Municipality of the Bono East Region.
The ceremony brought together traditional leaders, family members and residents of Oforikrom to witness the installation of the new traditional office holders, who pledged their commitment to serving the people and promoting the development of the area.
Speaking on behalf of the newly enstooled leaders, the new Akyempem Abusuapanin, Nana Yeboah Asiamah I, expressed gratitude to the Oforikrom Traditional Council and the people of Oforikrom for the confidence reposed in them and for the honor bestowed upon them.
He also thanked the Dadease Royal Family for its support and assured the council and residents of their readiness to work tirelessly for the progress of Oforikrom and Techiman as a whole.
The newly enstooled traditional leaders used the occasion to caution against illegal mining, popularly known as galamsey, describing it as a major threat to lands and water bodies.
“We are deeply grateful to the Oforikrom Traditional Council and the people of Oforikrom for the confidence they have reposed in us and for honouring us with these prestigious titles.
“On behalf of myself, the newly enstooled Oforikrom Akyempemhene, and the Akyempemhemaa, I wish to express our sincere appreciation to the Dadease Royal Family. We pledge to work diligently and serve the Oforikrom Traditional Council and the people of Oforikrom with all our strength towards the development and progress of Oforikrom and Techiman as a whole.”
According to them, the current generation has a responsibility to protect and preserve natural resources for future generations and must therefore support efforts aimed at combating the menace.
“I would also like to use this opportunity to advise against illegal mining (galamsey), which continues to destroy our lands and water bodies. We have a responsibility to our forefathers and future generations to protect and preserve our natural resources.”
Addressing the newly enstooled Akyempemhene and Akyempemhemaa, ONana Akyia Sakyera Abanaba, reminded them that the institution of chieftaincy is one of service and sacrifice and requires humility, commitment and dedication.
She advised them to remain open to correction, respect differing opinions and uphold truth and fairness in all their dealings to ensure a successful reign.
“The institution of chieftaincy is one of service to the land and its people. It is not an easy responsibility. Therefore, I encourage you to remain committed, serve with humility, and develop the capacity to handle all manner of challenges that may arise.
“To be successful as a traditional leader, you must be open to correction and willing to consider the views of others. Be truthful and fair in all your dealings, and you will succeed in promoting the welfare and development of Oforikrom.”
Okogyeaman Kese Basahyia II on his part clarified that the newly enstooled leaders were not tribal chiefs as being speculated in some quarters but were the legitimate Akyempemhene and Akyempemhemaa of the Oforikrom Traditional Area, having been enstooled by virtue of their lineage.
He therefore called on the people of Oforikrom to accord them the necessary respect and support to enable them contribute meaningfully to the development of the traditional area.
“I would like to set the record straight that they are not tribal chiefs, as has been rumoured. Rather, they are the Akyempemhene and Akyempemhemaa of the Oforikrom Traditional Area, and they have been enstooled by virtue of their lineage.
“I urge everyone to accord them the respect they deserve and support them in making their reign successful, as they have pledged to serve Oforikrom and Techiman at large.
Okogyeaman Kese Basahyia II further urged the newly enstooled leaders to abide by the customs, traditions and laws of the land and to serve all residents of Oforikrom without discrimination.
” I want to advise the newly enstooled Akyempemhene and Akyempemhemaa to abide by the customs, traditions, and laws of the land and to respect all the people of Oforikrom, regardless of their background.”
