The Central Regional Member of the Council of State, Mr. Hakeem Adae, has called on Ghanaians to uphold unity and peaceful coexistence despite differences in religious beliefs, stressing that the country remains one people with a common purpose.
According to him, although citizens worship in different ways, they all serve one God and must therefore practice their faiths responsibly to preserve the peace and stability of the nation.
Mr. Adae made the remarks during a Muslim festival held at Twifo Praso in the Twifo Atti Morkwa District of the Central Region.
He stated that religious tolerance and mutual respect among Muslims, Christians and traditional believers continue to play a major role in sustaining harmony within the country and urged citizens not to allow religious differences to create divisions.
The Member of Parliament for the Twifo Atti Morkwa Constituency, Hon. Theophilus T.D. Vondee, together with the District Chief Executive, Hon. Isaac Yawson, also appealed to Ghanaians to protect the peaceful relationship existing among various religious groups and traditional authorities.
They noted that Ghana’s reputation as a peaceful country admired for religious coexistence must be sustained to support national growth and development.
The two officials further indicated that the government of President John Mensah remains committed to implementing development projects across the country, including the Twifo Atti Morkwa District, to improve the welfare of the people.
Meanwhile, the Student Chief Imam, Suleman Abudelah, advised the youth to stay away from substance abuse, warning that drug addiction continues to destroy lives and contribute to indiscipline and other social problems within communities.
He appealed to the government and security agencies to intensify efforts in arresting and prosecuting drug dealers in order to protect the future of the youth.
