The Centre of Posterity Interest Organization (COPIO), in partnership with international nonprofit organization Interweaves Solutions, is set to roll out a youth empowerment project aimed at providing skills training, start-up support and mentorship to young people to establish sustainable businesses.
The project will train beneficiaries in areas including dressmaking and hairdressing, provide them with start-up grants, and offer continuous coaching and monitoring to help them grow their businesses.
The Executive Director of COPIO, Mustapha Maison Yeboah, said the initiative is aimed at creating a supportive environment for young people undergoing apprenticeship training and equipping them with the resources needed to become economically independent.
He explained that the project goes beyond skills training by providing financial and technical support to help beneficiaries successfully transition from apprenticeship into entrepreneurship.
“The reason behind the project is to create a conducive environment for youth in apprenticeship and also provide them with a grant to start their businesses while also monitoring and coaching them on how to grow their businesses,” Mr. Yeboah said.
He said the project will focus on young people in apprenticeship as well as those engaged in farming, with women expected to receive priority attention.
“The objectives of the project are to provide training, grants and mentorship for the youth in apprenticeship and also those in farming. Women will be prioritised for this project,” he stated.
Mr. Yeboah said the intervention forms part of COPIO’s efforts to promote sustainable livelihoods and create economic opportunities for vulnerable groups, particularly young people and women.
As part of measures to ensure the success of the project, COPIO will collaborate with the Ghana Health Service to provide health support for beneficiaries.
According to the Executive Director, the collaboration will ensure that participants are healthy and able to fully engage in the training programme.
“As part of the project, we will collaborate with the Ghana Health Service to ensure that all our beneficiaries are healthy to successfully undergo the training and ensure the overall success of the project,” he added.
The project is expected to strengthen skills development, improve access to entrepreneurship opportunities and support beneficiaries with the necessary tools to establish and sustain their businesses.
