The Regent of Bimbilla, Nyelinbolgu Naa Dassana Andani Yakubu, has called on the people of Nanung to strengthen peace, unity and social cohesion as a foundation for sustainable development in the area.
He said the development of Bimbilla and the wider Nanung traditional area could only be achieved when residents put aside differences, embraced dialogue and worked collectively towards the common good.
Nyelinbolgu Naa Dassana Andani Yakubu made the call after leading chiefs, elders, youth and residents of Bimbilla on a health walk as part of activities marking this year’s Damba Festival.
The health walk brought together people from different sections of the community, with participants using the occasion to promote healthy living while also reinforcing the message of peace and unity among the people.
The Regent said traditional festivals such as Damba provided an important platform not only for celebrating the cultural heritage of the people but also for strengthening bonds among families, communities and traditional authorities.
According to him, peace remains a critical requirement for attracting investment, improving infrastructure and creating opportunities for the people, particularly the youth.
He urged residents to continue supporting initiatives aimed at promoting development and to resolve disagreements through dialogue rather than confrontation.
The Regent further called on the youth to take advantage of emerging opportunities in Bimbilla and contribute positively to the growth of the community.
Meanwhile, the Northern Regional Minister, Ali Adolf Nbordiba, has expressed satisfaction with the progress and quality of work on the ongoing construction of the 24-hour economy market in Bimbilla.
The Minister, who inspected the project, said the quality of work so far was encouraging and expressed optimism that the facility would contribute significantly to economic activities in the area when completed.
The 24-hour economy market is expected to provide a modern trading environment for businesses and create additional opportunities for traders, artisans, transport operators and other economic actors in Bimbilla and surrounding communities.
Mr. Nbordiba said the project formed part of broader efforts to expand economic opportunities and support local businesses, particularly by creating infrastructure that could facilitate increased commercial activities.
He encouraged contractors working on the project to maintain the quality of work and adhere to the required standards and timelines to ensure that the people derive the intended benefits from the investment.
The Minister also stressed the importance of collaboration between traditional authorities, the local assembly, residents and government agencies in ensuring that development projects in the area were properly protected and maintained.
The Damba Festival, which brings together chiefs, elders and residents, continues to serve as an important cultural occasion for the Nanung people, providing an opportunity to celebrate their traditions while reflecting on the development needs of the area.
The peace message from the Regent and the inspection of the 24-hour economy market have therefore added a development dimension to this year’s celebrations, with renewed calls for unity, healthy living and collective action towards the advancement of Bimbilla and the Nanung traditional area.
