Real Madrid head coach José Mourinho has ruled out the possibility of signing Barcelona forward Lamine Yamal, despite acknowledging the quality and talent of the Spanish youngster.
Mourinho was asked about the possibility of bringing Yamal to Real Madrid during an interview with Spanish television programme El Chiringuito, but the Portuguese manager quickly dismissed the idea, insisting that he is satisfied with the squad currently at his disposal.
“Will I sign Lamine Yamal? He’s a great player. But no, we already have a top squad,” Mourinho said, making it clear that the Barcelona star is not part of his current transfer plans.
Yamal has established himself as one of the most exciting young players in world football and has become a key figure for Barcelona. His performances have also elevated his profile on the international stage, with the winger playing an important role for Spain.
Mourinho’s comments come after his return to the Real Madrid dugout, with the club preparing for the 2026/27 season with ambitions of reclaiming the La Liga title from Barcelona. The Portuguese coach has already overseen a significant reshaping of the squad, with Real Madrid adding players including Yan Diomandé, while also retaining several of their established stars.
Rather than calling for further major additions, Mourinho has expressed confidence in the quality available to him. His position on Yamal also reflects his belief that the current Real Madrid squad already has sufficient attacking options to compete for major honours.
The Madrid coach has, however, continued to praise Yamal’s ability. Reports from his interview indicate that Mourinho recognised the youngster’s exceptional quality while making it clear that admiration for a player does not necessarily mean he wants to bring him to the Santiago Bernabéu.
Yamal’s presence at Barcelona also makes any potential transfer particularly significant. A move directly from Barcelona to Real Madrid would be one of the most controversial transfers in Spanish football, given the historic rivalry between the two clubs.
For now, Mourinho appears content with his options as he prepares Real Madrid for the new campaign, while Yamal remains firmly at the centre of Barcelona’s plans.
