Kwasi Boakye has been elected Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Techiman South Constituency after securing 1,203 votes in the party’s constituency executive elections held at the Techiman Ohene Ameyaw Park.
He defeated five other contenders to emerge victorious in the keenly contested election, with Abdallah Justice Salia placing second with 222 votes, followed by Saliu Alhaji Nuhu with 653 votes.
In his first remarks after the election, Mr Boakye thanked delegates for exercising their franchise peacefully and urged party members to maintain the peace throughout the post-election period.
“I want to thank all delegates for coming out to exercise their franchise peacefully. Your conduct has demonstrated our commitment to democracy and the unity of our great party,” he said.
He congratulated all successful aspirants and encouraged those who lost to remain committed to the party, assuring them that their contributions remained important to the NDC’s progress.
“To all those who won, I congratulate you on your victory. To those who could not make it this time, do not be discouraged. There will be another opportunity, and I wish you better luck next time. We are all members of the same party, and we must continue to work together,” he added.
Mr Boakye called for sustained peace and unity within the constituency, stressing that the party’s collective interest must take precedence over individual ambitions.
He said the newly elected executives must work together to strengthen the party’s grassroots structures, mobilise supporters and prepare adequately for the 2028 general elections.
“Our main target is to unite the party and work together to win the Techiman South parliamentary seat in 2028. We cannot achieve this if we allow divisions to weaken us. We must put the election behind us and focus on the bigger task ahead,” he stated.
