The National Film Authority (NFA) has launched the Cinema Train Initiative to revive Ghana’s cinema-going culture, expand access to local films and create new economic opportunities for players in the film industry.
The initiative is designed to rebuild public interest in cinema, strengthen film exhibition and connect producers, distributors, exhibitors and audiences through a common platform.
Executive Secretary of the NFA, Kafui Danku-Pitcher, said the initiative was developed in consultation with key industry stakeholders to establish a sustainable ecosystem that supports the production, distribution and exhibition of Ghanaian films.
She explained that the Cinema Train Initiative goes beyond film screenings to create a platform where filmmakers can reach audiences, exhibitors generate revenue and distributors connect film content to markets.
Ms Danku-Pitcher emphasised that the initiative would bring together four major groups within the film industry, namely producers, distributors, exhibitors and audiences, adding that audience participation would be critical to its success.
“Every ticket you purchase is a vote of confidence in our filmmakers. It is an opportunity for our exhibitors to earn revenue, and for our industry to grow,” she said.
She noted that the initiative would also provide audiences with convenient and affordable opportunities to experience Ghanaian stories on the big screen.
According to her, the successful integration of the various players in the film industry would generate economic benefits beyond entertainment.
“When these elements come together, we create more than just screenings—we create economic opportunities, support jobs, stimulate investment, and strengthen the business of Ghanaian film,” Ms Danku-Pitcher stated.
The Cinema Train Initiative is expected to provide additional screening opportunities for Ghanaian filmmakers, particularly in communities with limited access to conventional cinema facilities, while strengthening the distribution and exhibition of local productions. agyex.com+2
The initiative forms part of broader efforts by the NFA to address challenges in film exhibition and distribution and improve the commercial prospects of Ghana’s film industry.
