The Nkoranza North District Assembly in the Bono East Region has rewarded 42 teachers for their dedication and contribution to quality education in the district.
The maiden edition of the awards, covering the 2023 to 2026 period, was held at Busunya Senior High School on Thursday, November 5, 2026, under the theme “Resetting Education: The Role of Stakeholders.”
The awardees received motorbikes, refrigerators, 43-inch television sets, gas cylinders, plaques and certificates in recognition of their commitment to teaching and learning.
The initiative, spearheaded by the District Chief Executive, Hon. Effah Patrick, in collaboration with the Member of Parliament, Hon. Joseph Kwasi Mensah, is aimed at motivating teachers and promoting excellence in education.

Speaking at the ceremony, Hon. Effah Patrick said teachers in the district had not received such recognition since the establishment of the Assembly due to financial constraints.
He said the Assembly had therefore partnered the District Education Directorate to introduce the awards scheme to appreciate teachers for their sacrifices and contributions to educational development.
The DCE described teachers as important contributors to national development, noting that their responsibilities extended beyond classroom teaching to nurturing talents, instilling discipline and preparing future leaders.
He encouraged teachers to remain committed to their duties despite the challenges confronting education in the district and assured them that subsequent editions of the awards would be improved.

Hon. Effah Patrick also announced plans by the Assembly to introduce similar recognition schemes for workers in other public institutions to enhance motivation and productivity.
He noted that the ceremony marked the first collaboration between the MP’s office and the Assembly to reward teachers, adding that his experience as a former teacher had given him an understanding of the challenges educators faced.
The District Director of Education, Mr. Stephen Kwasi Botwe, commended teachers for their role in shaping future leaders and advancing national development.
He stressed that education remained a powerful tool for national development but required motivated teachers who were committed to effective teaching.

Mr. Botwe called on teachers to improve their professional attitudes, particularly punctuality, effective classroom teaching and commitment to duty.
He disclosed that the district continued to face a shortage of teachers, especially in remote communities, where some schools had fewer than four teachers, while some kindergartens had only one trained teacher.
Despite the challenges, he said several teachers had demonstrated exceptional commitment and deserved recognition.
The overall best teacher, Mr. Dongber Anselm of Osei Bonsu Senior High School at Yefri, received a motorbike and a plaque, while the other awardees received refrigerators, television sets and gas cylinders, alongside plaques.

Mr. Anselm said quality education required the development of critical thinking, digital literacy, communication and problem-solving skills among learners.
The ceremony was attended by the Bono East Regional Minister, Hon. Owusu Francis Antwi, traditional leaders, officials of the Regional Education Directorate, assembly members and representatives of various schools.
