The Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) of the Techiman Senior High School has donated 400 pieces of classroom furniture valued at GH¢280,000 to the school to help address the furniture deficit and improve teaching and learning.
The donation forms part of efforts by the newly constituted PTA executive to respond to some of the challenges confronting the school and create a more conducive environment for both teachers and learners.
Speaking on behalf of the PTA Chairman, the Project Coordinator of the Association, Pastor Sampson Seglah said the new executives, who assumed office this year, had identified several challenges that required urgent attention.
“On behalf of the PTA Chairman, I am handing over these four hundred pieces of furniture to the school to complement teaching and learning activities.
“We assumed office as the new PTA executives this year and we have taken note of a lot of challenges that we want to address in the school.”

He said apart from the furniture deficit, the condition of some classrooms and the road network within the school remained concerns that the PTA was committed to helping address.
The PTA Coordinator therefore appealed to traditional leaders, the Member of Parliament and the general public to support efforts to improve infrastructure and other facilities at the school.
“Most of the classrooms are not in good condition, and the road network within the school is also not the best. As a PTA, we will do everything within our power to help uplift the image of the school, but we cannot do it alone.
“We are therefore calling on our revered traditional leaders, the Member of Parliament and the general public to come to the aid of the school.”
He disclosed that each set of furniture cost GH¢700, bringing the total value of the 400 pieces to GH¢280,000.

He further urged teachers and students to take proper care of the furniture to encourage the PTA to provide additional support in the future.
“Each set of furniture costs GH¢700, so the total cost of the four hundred pieces of furniture is GH¢280,000. I urge teachers and learners to take good care of the furniture, as this will motivate us to donate more in the future,” he said.
Receiving the items on behalf of the Board of Directors, staff and students, Headteacher of the school, Moses Kofi Adu, expressed appreciation to the PTA for the gesture, describing the donation as timely.
“On behalf of the Board of Directors, staff and learners, I would like to express our deepest appreciation to the PTA for this kind gesture.”
According to him, furniture shortage remains one of its major challenges, with about 1,600 additional pieces needed to adequately address the situation.

“As we speak, furniture deficit is one of the major challenges confronting the school, and we need additional 1,600 pieces of furniture to help address the problem. However, these forty pieces will go a long way towards providing a conducive environment for teaching and learning.
Moses Kofi Adu, assured the PTA that the furniture would be properly maintained and used for its intended purpose.
“I can assure the PTA that we will take very good care of the furniture to ensure that it serves its intended purpose.”
The school’s Boy’s Prefect, on his part highlighted the impact of the furniture shortage, particularly during examinations, saying some students had previously been forced to wait for their colleagues to finish before they could write their papers.
He expressed gratitude to the PTA for the intervention, describing the donation as a significant relief to the school.

“In fact, furniture deficit has been a very serious issue to the extent that during examinations, some learners sometimes have to wait for others to finish before they can go and write.
“We thank God that the PTA has been able to provide us with these pieces of furniture. We really appreciate their support and thank them very much.”
The Head Prefect of the school also assured the PTA that students would take responsibility for maintaining the furniture and using it appropriately.
“As the head prefect, I would like to assure you that we are going to work hard to keep the furniture neat and in good condition in our classrooms. We will also use them for learning activities to help improve academic performance on campus.”
The PTA said the donation was only one of its interventions and expressed its commitment to working with stakeholders to improve infrastructure and the general learning environment at Techiman Senior High School.
