The Constituency Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Wenchi Constituency of the Bono Region, Mr. Ali Awudu, has criticized the performance of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government, describing the administration as disappointing after 18 months in office.
According to him, many Ghanaians are currently facing economic hardships due to what he described as the government’s inability to fulfill key campaign promises made to the people before the elections.
Speaking at a gathering of party supporters and executives in Wenchi, Mr. Awudu alleged that cocoa farmers across the country are struggling under the current administration, despite the sector being one of the backbone industries of Ghana’s economy.
He also raised concerns about the implementation and management of the Free Senior High School (Free SHS) policy, claiming that the programme is facing significant challenges under the NDC government.
“The NDC government has brought hardship on Ghanaians. For the first time, cocoa farmers are suffering, and many of the promises made to the people have not been fulfilled,” he stated.
Mr. Awudu said the growing dissatisfaction among citizens could influence the political direction of the country ahead of the 2028 general elections.
According to him, the NPP remains determined to reorganize and work hard towards regaining political power and reclaiming the Wenchi parliamentary seat.
The constituency chairman also used the occasion to formally appeal to delegates of the party to retain him as chairman during the upcoming internal elections of the NPP.
He explained that he still has unfinished work within the constituency and believes his continued leadership would help strengthen the party’s grassroots support ahead of the next elections.
“I am appealing to delegates to renew my mandate because I have unfinished business. Together, we can work hard to win back the parliamentary seat for the NPP in 2028,” he appealed.
Mr. Awudu further called on party supporters, executives, and sympathizers to remain united and focused in order to build a stronger front for future electoral contests.
He stressed that unity within the party would be crucial to the NPP’s efforts to recapture power and improve its electoral fortunes in the constituency and across the country.
