Kokoroko D/A Primary and Junior High School in the Techiman North District has benefited from a major donation worth about GHS 100,000 from Dr. Jamila Dugan, a medical doctor based abroad, together with her friends, to support education and healthcare in the community.

The donation formed part of the group’s ongoing commitment to improving living conditions in the deprived Kokoroko community, which they have officially adopted for continuous support and development initiatives.

Items presented to the school included laptops, tablets, pens, a metal safe for secure storage, a fully stocked first aid box and several other educational materials aimed at enhancing teaching and learning.

The items were handed over through the Founder of the Mark Lovely Foundation and Country Representative for the African Library Project, Mr. Ernest Akomah Kyerema, who represented Dr. Jamila Dugan and her team during the presentation ceremony.

Speaking after the presentation, Mr. Ernest Akomah Kyerema described Kokoroko as one of the underserved communities in the area that requires continuous support from individuals and organizations. According to him, the intervention is intended to expose pupils to digital learning opportunities and create a more conducive environment for effective education.

“We believe every child deserves access to quality education regardless of where they live. These items are to help the pupils become familiar with technology and also improve the standard of learning in the school.” He stated.

He noted that the provision of the first aid box would also help address minor health concerns within both the school and the wider community.

Mr. Kyerema emphasized that the support was not a one-time gesture, stressing that Dr. Jamila Dugan and her friends remain committed to the development of Kokoroko. He disclosed that plans are already underway to provide the community with a toilet facility to help improve sanitation and general hygiene.

“This is not the first time we are supporting this community and certainly it will not be the last. We are committed to standing with the people of Kokoroko until we see meaningful improvement in education and living conditions here.” He said.

He reaffirmed their determination to continue supporting the community until there is a significant improvement in education and the living conditions of residents.

The headteachers of the Primary and Junior High School, together with the Assembly Member for the area, expressed appreciation to Dr. Jamila Dugan, her friends and Mr. Ernest Akomah Kyerema for the gesture. They said the donation would greatly improve teaching and learning in the school.

One of the headteachers noted that access to digital learning tools has been a major challenge for pupils in the area and described the donation as timely and impactful.

“These items will go a long way to support both teachers and pupils. The laptops and tablets will help introduce the children to ICT learning, which has been a challenge for us over the years.” The headteacher stated.

The Assembly Member also appealed for additional support for the community, explaining that Kokoroko still lacks several basic social amenities.

“We are grateful for this support, but the community still needs help in areas such as sanitation, infrastructure and educational facilities. We appeal to other benevolent individuals and organizations to also come to our aid.” He appealed.

Pupils of Kokoroko D/A Primary and JHS could not hide their excitement as they expressed gratitude to the donors for the educational materials and support. They promised to make good use of the items and remain committed to their studies to justify the confidence reposed in them by the donors.

Some of the pupils described the donation as one of the biggest surprises they had received in their school life.

“We are very happy today because these items will help us learn better. We promise to study hard and take good care of everything that has been given to us.” Some of the pupils said.
