Founder and Presiding Archbishop of Action Chapel International Ministry, Archbishop Nicholas Duncan-Williams, has called on leaders at all levels to place the national interest above tribal, political and personal considerations to foster Ghana’s development.
Speaking during the 2026 National Day of Prayer and Thanksgiving, the renowned clergyman said the responsibility of leadership extends beyond the President or other top government officials, stressing that everyone entrusted with authority has a duty to serve the nation with fairness and integrity.
According to him, tribalism and partisan politics continue to undermine national development by influencing appointments and decision-making instead of competence and merit.
“This is not just referring to the President or Prime Minister. It refers to anybody in authority. It is a problem of tribe. When I’m in authority and I’m from your tribe, I have to favour my tribe. If I’m not from your tribe, then for whatever reason, it doesn’t matter the capabilities you have and what you can do to help the nation.
“If you are not from my tribe, you are an enemy. So even though you can help the country, I won’t give the job to you because you are not from my tribe or you are not from my party.” Archbishop Duncan-Williams stated.
He urged leaders to rise above ethnic and political divisions by embracing values that promote national unity and selfless service.
“We pray for leaders who have love for God and love for country, and who want to make a difference.” he said.
The Archbishop also challenged the youth to prepare themselves for leadership by demonstrating integrity, competence and a commitment to national service.
“For you next generation leaders, all of you, the youth here, you are not just praising and dancing. You are demonstrating capacity and love for God.” He added.
