The Nkoranza North District has taken a major step towards advancing digital education and technology-driven development following the official opening of the One Million Coders Program Center in Busunya.
The initiative, introduced under the government’s One Million Coders Programme spearheaded by President John Dramani Mahama, has already generated significant interest in the district, with more than 66 applicants registering ahead of the commencement of training.
The District Chief Executive for Nkoranza North, Hon. Effah Patrick, popularly known as “Patoo”, officially inaugurated and handed over the facility during a ceremony attended by the Member of Parliament for Nkoranza North, Hon. Joseph Kwasi Mensah, traditional authorities, and community members.
Speaking at the event, Hon. Effah Patrick described the center as a strategic investment in the future of the district’s youth and workforce. He noted that the facility would serve as a hub for digital learning and innovation by providing practical training in coding and other modern technological skills.
“This center’s mandate is to drive digital education in our district. By equipping students, apprentices, and employers with cutting-edge tech skills, we are building local and national workforce capacity.”
According to him, the program aligns with government efforts to bridge the digital skills gap and create opportunities for young people to participate meaningfully in the rapidly evolving digital economy.
He further indicated that the facility would offer hands-on training in emerging technologies and equip participants with practical skills that meet current industry demands, thereby improving employment prospects and supporting entrepreneurship.
“This is another way people here can get the technological skills they need to earn a better living and build a better life. The center looks amazing, and it is an honor to officially open it.”
The One Million Coders Programme, being implemented by the Ministry of Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations, seeks to expand access to digital skills training across the country and position Ghana as a competitive player in the global technology space.
Also speaking at the event, Hon. Eric Amoako, Assembly Member for Busunya and Mmerantehene of the Busunya Traditional Area, commended the government and stakeholders for bringing the initiative to the district.
He emphasized the growing importance of technology in modern society and urged the youth to take advantage of the opportunities being created through the center.
“The ‘born before computer’ era is over. Most of the talent we need is already in our community. What we need now is to inspire them, develop their skills, and connect them to opportunity.”
The opening of the center is expected to enhance digital literacy, promote innovation, and create pathways for employment and economic growth among young people in Nkoranza North and its surrounding communities.
