The Bono East Regional Communication Director of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Owusu Adjei Ebenezer, popularly known as June-July, has called for unity among members of the party following its national executive elections as it begins preparations towards the 2028 general elections.
He said the party must immediately focus on bringing together members who contested the various positions and their supporters to ensure that the internal elections do not create divisions that could affect the party’s preparations for the next general election.
The NPP held its National Delegates Conference at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi on Saturday, October 3, 2026, where delegates elected a new team of national executives to lead the party for the next four years. John Boadu was elected National Chairman, while Justin Kodua Frimpong retained the position of General Secretary.
Speaking in an interview with Classic FMs, Mr. Adjei Ebenezer said the party’s next priority should be to bring its members together and build a united front ahead of 2028.
“Right after the elections, we will put in measures to unite our people and bring them all together as a united front towards the 2028 general elections,” he said.
According to him, the internal elections were part of the democratic processes of the party, but the contest must now give way to a collective effort to strengthen the NPP and prepare it for the next national election.
He said political parties are established to compete for political power through elections, making unity an important requirement for the NPP as it seeks to achieve its electoral objective.
“Political parties are established to win elections, and the NPP as a political party, our aim is to win every election we contest in, and that can only be done through unity,” Mr. Adjei Ebenezer said.
He stressed that the party would therefore have to work deliberately to bring its members and supporters together, particularly those who may have taken different sides during the national executive contests.
“We are all coming on deck to fight for unity and approach the 2028 as a united front,” he added.
His comments come in the immediate aftermath of the NPP’s national executive elections, which attracted more than 7,000 delegates from across the country.
The election produced a new national leadership team, with John Boadu securing the National Chairmanship with 2,888 votes, while Justin Kodua Frimpong was re-elected General Secretary with 4,486 votes. Titus Glover was elected National Organiser, Abanga Fuseini Yakubu became National Youth Organiser, Mavis Hawa Koomson was elected National Women’s Organiser, and Dennis Edward Miracles Aboagye was elected National Communications Director unopposed.
In his acceptance speech, the newly elected National Chairman, John Boadu, also called for unity within the party, saying the NPP should prioritise its collective interest following the internal contest. He stressed that there should be “no winners and losers” but a united party focused on one purpose.
NPP Flagbearer Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia similarly appealed to defeated aspirants to remain engaged in the party’s work, assuring them that they would have roles to play in the campaign towards the 2028 elections.
Mr. Adjei Ebenezer further said the party’s preparations for 2028 would not be limited to organisational unity but would also involve developing policies that the NPP would present to the electorate as an alternative to the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC).
He said the party, under the leadership of its flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, would develop what he described as better alternative policies aimed at addressing the country’s challenges.
“The party under the leadership of our able Flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, will come out with better and alternative policies to rescue Ghana from the NDC and ensure the growth of our country for the better,” he said.
Mr. Adjei Ebenezer said the combination of unity, effective organisation and policy development would be important as the NPP moves beyond its internal elections and begins its wider preparations for the 2028 general elections.
The new national executives are expected to steer the party’s organisational and political activities over the next four years, including efforts to return the NPP to power in 2028.
