Kintampo Senior High School has failed to qualify for the 2026 National Science and Maths Quiz (NSMQ) after suffering defeat to Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Girls’ Senior High School in the Bono East Regional Qualifiers.
The result ends Kintampo SHS’ hopes of competing at this year’s national championship, with Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Girls’ SHS securing the region’s qualification slot after an impressive performance in the keenly contested quiz.
Kintampo SHS, widely regarded as one of Bono East Region’s strongest academic institutions and a regular contender in science and mathematics competitions, entered the regional contest with high expectations. However, the school was unable to overturn the lead established by Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Girls’ SHS, which maintained its composure throughout the contest to emerge victorious.
Nkoranza Senior High Technical School also participated in the contest but fell short as Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Girls’ SHS dominated the competition to book a place at the national championship.
The defeat comes as a major disappointment for students, alumni and supporters of Kintampo SHS, affectionately known as the “Giants,” who had hoped to see the school return to the national stage after its impressive performances in previous editions of the competition.
For Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Girls’ SHS, the victory marks another milestone in the school’s growing academic reputation. The school will now carry the hopes of Bono East Region into the 2026 National Science and Maths Quiz, where it will compete against top-performing senior high schools from across the country.
The National Science and Maths Quiz, organised annually by Primetime Limited, remains Ghana’s flagship academic competition for senior high schools, promoting excellence in science, technology, engineering and mathematics while inspiring students to pursue academic achievement.
