Residents of Jema Domeabra, a community in Jema within the Kintampo South District of the Bono East Region, have renewed calls on the District Chief Executive (DCE), the Member of Parliament (MP), and traditional authorities to relocate a refuse dumpsite they say has become a major threat to their health and well-being.
The residents said the dumpsite, which is situated close to their homes, continues to produce offensive odour and create an unhealthy environment, making life unbearable, particularly during the rainy season when stagnant water and decomposing waste worsen the situation.
Speaking in an interview with Classic News journalists, some of the affected residents expressed disappointment over what they described as the lack of attention from authorities after an earlier intervention by the Member of Parliament for Kintampo South, Hon. Felicia Adjei.
According to them, although the MP previously responded to concerns raised by the community, no other government official has since visited the area to assess the current condition of the dumpsite or provide a lasting solution to the problem.
The residents explained that the persistent accumulation of waste has exposed children, the elderly, and other vulnerable members of the community to unpleasant smells and possible health risks, while flies and other insects continue to invade nearby homes.
They noted that the situation becomes more severe whenever it rains, as the combination of moisture and decomposing refuse creates an unbearable stench that affects their daily activities and quality of life.
The residents are therefore appealing to Nananom, Hon. Felicia Adjei, and the Kintampo South District Chief Executive to urgently intervene by relocating or clearing the dumpsite to restore a clean and healthy environment for the community
They stressed that they are not seeking temporary measures but a permanent solution that will safeguard public health and improve sanitation in the area.
The residents expressed hope that the renewed appeal would receive immediate attention, emphasizing that access to a clean environment is essential for the safety, dignity, and well-being of every member of the community.
