The Osagyefo Sanitation Taskforce in the Dormaa Central Municipality has cautioned residents against connecting wastewater from their homes directly into public gutters.
The Dormaa Ahenenana Adontenhene and Operational Commander of the taskforce, Nana Ansu Gyeabour, said the practice was contributing to poor sanitation and could obstruct the free flow of water through the drainage system.
He said some residents had constructed outlets that channel wastewater from their homes into the main public gutters instead of making proper arrangements for wastewater disposal.
Nana Ansu Gyeabour warned residents involved in the practice to stop, stressing the need to protect public drainage facilities from activities that could compromise their effectiveness. He also raised concerns about the use of public gutters by some individuals as temporary spaces for moving and storing building materials during construction.
According to him, some property owners and contractors leave construction materials in the gutters after completing their work, while others damage the drainage structures in the process of transporting the materials.
Nana Ansu Gyeabour therefore appealed to residents and property owners to handle public drainage facilities with care and desist from activities that could damage or obstruct them.
He further called on the Dormaa Central Municipal Assembly and other relevant authorities to take appropriate action against persons who misuse or damage public gutters.
Nana Ansu Gyeabour said the concerns were identified during sanitation exercises conducted by the Osagyefo Sanitation Taskforce as it moves through communities in the municipality to clean and improve sanitation conditions.
He urged residents to support the taskforce by keeping their surroundings clean and protecting public sanitation infrastructure.
