The Ghana Police Service has cautioned final-year Senior High School students across the country to celebrate responsibly and refrain from engaging in unlawful acts as they complete the 2026 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).
In a statement sighted by Newspyramid.com on the official Facebook page of the Ghana Police Service, the Service urged candidates to remain disciplined, law-abiding, and mindful of the consequences of their actions as they conclude their examinations on Friday, June 19, 2026.
The Police warned that acts of violence, vandalism, arson, assault, and other forms of misconduct could have serious legal implications and potentially destroy the future prospects of students who have worked hard to complete their secondary education.
According to the statement, the Service will not hesitate to arrest and prosecute any student found engaging in criminal conduct under the guise of celebrating the end of examinations.
“The Service reminds students that acts of violence, vandalism, arson, assault, and any other unlawful conduct carry serious criminal consequences that can permanently jeopardise their futures and derail the academic careers they have worked hard to build.” The statement said.
The Police cited two recent incidents in the Upper East Region involving student violence that led to the arrest of six students.
At Zebilla Senior High Technical School, two students were arrested in connection with the alleged arson of a teacher’s apartment. In a separate incident at Bawku Senior High School, four students were arrested for alleged involvement in rioting, assault on school staff, and the destruction of both school and private property.
The Service said the incidents serve as a reminder of the dangers associated with irresponsible behaviour and warned that offenders would be dealt with according to the law.
The Ghana Police Service further appealed to parents, guardians, teachers, and school authorities to collaborate in promoting discipline, peace, and respect among students during the period following the examinations.
The statement emphasized that while the completion of WASSCE marks an important milestone in the lives of students, celebrations should be conducted in a peaceful and responsible manner that does not endanger lives, damage property, or bring the law into disrepute.
The Police reiterated their commitment to maintaining law and order across the country and urged students to focus on their future aspirations rather than engaging in acts that could jeopardize their academic and professional careers.
