,The Benkumhene of Buoyem and a leading member of the Keep Techiman Clean Campaign, Nana Ameyaw Antwi-Boasiako, has appealed to Christian clergy and Muslim Imams to devote at least five minutes of every sermon to educating their congregations on sanitation and environmental cleanliness. He said religious institutions have a unique opportunity to shape public attitudes and should use their influence to promote responsible sanitation practices.
Speaking in an interview with newsmen in Techiman, Nana Ameyaw Antwi-Boasiako described sanitation as a collective responsibility that requires the active involvement of traditional authorities, religious leaders, government institutions and members of the public. He stressed that achieving cleaner communities cannot be left to government alone but demands sustained commitment from every segment of society.
According to him, churches and mosques attract large numbers of people on a regular basis, making them effective platforms for promoting behavioural change. He encouraged religious leaders to consistently educate their congregations on proper waste disposal, environmental protection and the need to keep their homes, places of worship and surrounding communities clean.
He expressed the belief that integrating sanitation education into weekly religious activities would help instil a culture of cleanliness among citizens, reduce indiscriminate littering and contribute to healthier and safer communities. He noted that continuous public education remains one of the most effective ways of addressing poor sanitation habits.
Nana Ameyaw Antwi-Boasiako also called on residents to desist from dumping refuse indiscriminately and to participate actively in community clean-up exercises. He said maintaining a clean environment requires personal responsibility and community cooperation, especially in the wake of increasing concerns over flooding caused by choked drains.
He reaffirmed the commitment of the Keep Techiman Clean Campaign to promoting environmental sanitation and urged all citizens to support efforts aimed at making Techiman one of the cleanest municipalities in the country. He added that lasting improvements in sanitation can only be achieved when every individual accepts the responsibility of protecting the environment.
